Being an artist and a confirmed control freak it’s hard when it comes to getting a tattoo for me. But fortunately I was introduced to a tattooist as passionate as I am. There were times when I wished I could take my arm off from the shoulder so I could draw on it myself to get the right tattoo for me, but unfortunately I didn’t come in kit-set form. Luckily I found Bugsy from Black Mamba Tattoos. I had so many ideas and too many drawings but just didn’t know how to put it together when it came to creating a sleeve design.
Being from good old New Zealand I wanted something with Maori undertones, but my preferred tattoo style has always been Japanese style tattoos and flowers.
Mystro Bugsy studied all the images that I sent him, and I sat down and explained what elements I liked and why. He then grabbed a marker and started drawing on my arm, as if by magic the shapes and forms started forming on my arm, traditional japanese flowers held together by a Maori inspired background to hold everything together. Anyway the work is on-going and it may even move to a full back piece.
